Gua-sha is an ancient Chinese healing technique. Using a blunted jade tool, the therapist performs a gentle scraping against your oiled skin to stimulate microcirculation of the soft tissue, thereby increasing blood flow to the area. This technique offers a unique approach to better health, addressing issues like chronic pain. This motion raises small, red, rash-like dots that show under your skin. Practitioners believe that gua-sha releases unhealthy bodily matter from blood stasis within sore, tired, stiff or injured muscle areas to stimulate new oxygenated blood flow to the areas, thus promoting metabolic cell repair, regeneration, healing and recovery. The therapy is typically performed on the back, neck, arms and legs. A gentler version may be performed as a facial technique.
